My name is Frankie Colmane. I moved to Los Angeles from Paris, France many years ago.
I found a home away from home.
The Smiling Spider is a charcoal print from 19th century French artist Odilon Redon. I used to fear spiders and hate them. Until I realized they are a great symbol for our irrational fears. Most spiders that park themselves in our houses at night are not dangerous. The truth is they’re more scared of us than we’re of them. So The Smiling Spider is the image of fear smiling back at us.
As an artist I’m interested in looking at the issues which expose our irrational fears.

thank you for your very thoughtful post on Alternet (2/1/2010) about what we can personally do about climate change, but also pointing out that corporations and governments are more responsible for dealing with this issue.

Cubby Selby Junior, Wow, you remember you kindly got him to dedicate the inside jacket of his book ‘The Demon’ for me. We worked very hard on that early end of the tunnel…I woke up down in Auckland, near to the bottom of the earth, at the end of my bed, and thought of you remaining French writer under all that neon, and still locating trees. I am forty now Frankie, a grown man and everything….eeedx@hotmail.com…Write me, I am your old, not so English friend…..x
